Awareness Through the Body
A practice to develop concentration, relaxation, self-knowledge, and self-regulation in children and adults.
Awareness Through the Body (ATB) is a unique practice to help children and adults connect with their inner selves, fostering self awareness, self-knowledge and self-regulation through body-felt experiences. Whether you’re new to this journey or seeking to deepen your self-knowledge and inner contact, ATB provides practical tools to explore and manage the complexity of your being more effectively and find a sense of deeper self.
About ATB: What Is Awareness Through the Body?
ATB started in Transition school in July 1992 as a program to address the need, in the children’s education, for a safe space where they could come in close contact with themselves as a body felt experience. A safe space where, from their own personal experience, they could come to know themselves better and acquire their own sensory references for self-regulation. ATB evolved over time into a comprehensive practice to expand consciousness. Through creative, fun, and engaging activities, ATB helps you cultivate the witness attitude: an inner positioning from where one can watch, listen, to yourself without judging or analyzing.

How ATB Works: The Practice
Through playful and purposeful activities that develop gradually the programme first brings you into a state of receptivity in which you can better “listen” to the many and varied inputs you are continuously receiving from both your inner and outer world. From there the practice centers around four key pillars:
- Soft sustained focused attention: Exercises that build your ability to be present in the moment and sustain soft flowing attention in everyday life.
- Relaxation: Activities to find your own body felt sensations for how to relax at will at any time and any place or situation; finding dynamic relaxation.
- From the Witness Attitude to Self-Awareness: Practice to notice your thoughts, emotions, and sensations from a mirror like consciousness, without judging, analyzing or conceptualizing, and open the door to a deeper sense of Self.
- Self-Regulation & Self-Direction: Embody tools to manage life’s challenges more effectively.

Awareness Through the Body in the kindergarten
First steps towards cultivating attention, relaxation and self-awareness
This is a very practical book that gives a detailed description of how we work at a very early age to help children set the base for conscious attention, the basic abilities that one needs to better know oneself and the world, and the basic skills to manage oneself more efficiently.
